Bio Safety
Disease Control
Our ranch has a strict policy as being a “closed herd”. Any animals
entering our herd for breeding or otherwise must be cleared for any infectious
diseases and are quarantined for observation before being allowed to join our
base herd. Footwear is provided for guests if they are entering the pastures
or paddocks. This ensures that off farm contaminants are not brought in thus
reducing a bacterial threat to the herd. A stringent parasite control protocol
is followed all year, every year. Inoculations, insect deterrents and clean
paddocks are essential to a healthy herd.
NO Growth hormones are used within our breeding herd. We believe that as breeders, we must supply the genuine product.
Our cull procedures and guidelines are followed to the letter. Any abnormality that may present itself is documented and dealt with. We will only retain animals that improve and sustain the high quality of the South Devon cattle. Our cull to date is very low, even with our strict picks; our rate over three years is only .03 %. Yet another thing we love about South Devon’s, minimal birth, calf, cow and bull breed failures.
